2009 MIFS Archive

The new Board of Directors first order of business was to establish the Mission Statement.  The original mission and goal was to provide a grass roots community where local filmmakers can share their ideas, projects, and collaborate on local efforts.  We've kept that intact.

January 9th of 2009 we held our first event: "The Best of Milwaukee Short Film Festival" at the Alchemist Theatre in Bay View. The board's other projects in 2009 included membership details, event planning, and an updated website and social media presence to assist in the goal of bringing together the film making community.

April 10th of 2009 the society held another event at the Alchemist Theatre. "The Heart Spoke", a documentary about Cannes Film Festival creator Jean Touzet and "Echos" by filmmakers Don Fayel and Perrine Lievois. Also showing was the short film "Weeds" by local filmmakers Aurum Design.

Event Listing:
The Heart Spoke, is a 22-minute long documentary portrait on one of the creators of the Cannes Film Festival, Jean Touzet, and is the only documentary ever made on this figure of french cinema. Echos, is a one hour feature about the awakening of a relationship between a woman and nature. The result is two unique films that are really worth seeing ! Echos has already been in four Festivals, and has won a prize for best feature film in August 2008. The Heart Spoke has been in two festivals so far. Both films are in French and have English subtitles and are by Hadrien Don Fayel and Perrine Liévois Please have a look at the teaser trailers on the following website: www.instagno.com/echos www.instagno.com/heartspoke This program will also feature the short film Weeds by Aurum Design, a Milwaukee made film that played at last year's Cannes Film Festival.

Our new website debuted by late summer and the restructuring of the MIFS saw the date of The Annual Milwaukee Short Film Festival pushed back to September.  The MSFF also saw several changes this year going from a privately funded event to an event funded by submission fees and support from our business partners. The MIFS also stretched the MSFF over a weekend at new and multiple venues. The latest addition to the MSFF event was the Milwaukee premiere of "New Day", a feature film by Milwaukee filmmakers, R. Michael Gull, Jon Anne Willow, and Jason Williams.
